The Arrival of Carson Randall Peterson

Ready or not, here we come! One last shot as we make our to the hospital!

The events leading up to Carson's delivery were very different from Courtney's which had us running out the door, running red lights and making it to the hospital with just 45 min. to spare before we were holding Courtney in our arms. Carson's was much slower paced and controlled. Friday was the day we finished Carson's room. We had Cameron's things all moved out, the room re-painted, valance hung, crib put together, bed made, his clothes washed and in his drawers. I was feeling some what organized or as close to prepared as you could be. We were hoping this little guy would decide to come over the weekend which would give us a little more time to have Daddy home.

My mom was coming to spend the night with us "just in case" anything happened during the night we would have someone to stay with Cameron and Courtney. Grandma Peterson, who just lives 3 minutes away was going to be out of town. I had a feeling that something "just might happen" while she was gone and I wanted to have someone close.

That morning I went on quite a long and invigorating walk with one of my friends, her little boy and Cameron. We thought the walk might help get things going, well apparently it did! I didn't have a lot of contractions that were close but my water broke at about 5:00 p.m. which was just after my mom got here. Chad called to see how things were going and said he would be home around 6:00. I told him what was going on and that I didn't think we were in a big hurry since I wasn't having many contractions. We ate dinner, got the kids ready for bed and left for the hospital around 8:00 p.m.

This time around I had time to get an epidural which I gladly accepted!

We got checked in to the the hospital around 9:00 p.m. I was dialated to a 3 and 85% effaced. I was given the epidural and didn't feel any contractions, but did have a few side effects. It seemed all the things that "sometimes" happen to people happened to me! One of my legs jumped while he was putting the shot in, I started itching on my belly and back, I got nauseated, and dizzy. But, needless to say I wasn't hurting and feeling every contraction. The nurse gave me a little pitocin to get contractions coming closer together. After a bit I looked at the nurse and told her things were feeling a little different, she checked me and said, "Your Complete! your Dr. should be here soon" I pushed about 3 times and our little guy was here!

Carson Randall Peterson was born November 6th 2009 at 11:43 p.m.

Carson weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. and was 20 inches long!

At first it looked like he had blond hair but by morning when we got a better look at him and took more pictures it ended up being a light brown color.

Daddy and his newest little boy!

We are so happy to have you here Carson and are glad you are part of our family!

Baby update!

Nope, no baby yet! With my other two kids I came 10 days before my due date, since we just have to go by the ultrasound this time and have no idea what the date would be - things might be a little different. We have had a couple false alarms where we decided we had better get our bags packed. I have taken lots of warm baths in the middle of the night because this little guy keeps teasing that he is coming and the bath would ease things up a bit.

My Dr. said to think about the possibility of an induction since Courtney ended up coming so fast and this one will most likely be faster. Chad also works out of town one day a week and that would most likely be the day the baby decides to come and if he is an hour away there would be a possibility that he wouldn't make it back in time. Being induced would also give me time to get an epidural, which is something I was not able to get with Courtney since I was already dialated to an 8 when we got all situated at the hospital.

Part of me really wants the predictability of an induction but then the other part of me wants it to just happen on it's own since we are not working around Chad having to go to Florida or Las Vegas and take the Board Exams like we have had to do in the past when our last two kids were born. Luckily they ended up cooperating and coming early on their own, before the date we were scheduled to be induced.

However if we do decide to be induced, I realized I have been going by a different due date than the Dr. has to go by in regards to being able to induce at the hospital. The due date I was going by was the latest ultra sound (Nov. 13th) but I guess they have to go by the 1st ultrasound since it is more accurate which isn't until Nov. 19th. which would mean the earliest I could be induced would be November 12th. We will see what happens, ultimately this baby will come on it's own! I don't think it will be much longer since last week I was dialated to a 1 1/2 and 50 % effaced and this past monday I was dialated to a 2 1/2 and was 75% effaced. We'll see, I just have few more things to get done around the house and then I think I will be a little more relaxed and then he can come.

Here is a BIG bare belly shot!

There are a lot of new things that have happened with baby #3... I have been a lot more tired -I can never seem to catch up and stay caught up before running out of energy. Maybe it's just because I am getting older or that I have two other kids that don't stop or take a second to slow down. I have never really been able to take naps like I did at the beginning of this pregnancy nor have I ever had stretch marks until now or had such a big belly. I guess these are all just things that are new physically and hopefully don't last forever. I am excited to meet this baby boy and see the way he changes our lives spiritually and the lasting effects he will have on our family. It is always wonderful having a new and precious spirit in the home. As of right now, we will be calling our new little one - Carson Randall Peterson.
