I am realizing that around age 3 it is not uncommon for children to be afraid of things. Something is under their bed or something is out the window. I just wish there was an easy fix for helping Cameron to understand that these are just fears and are not real and to be able to stop dwelling on these SCARY things. He has now gotten into the habit of waking up 2 and 3 times during the night and coming in our room to get us - NOT FUN.
The other night I was helping him say his prayers before he went to bed and said, "... please help Jesus watch over and protect us so that I will not be scared and can sleep well." We quickly ended the prayer because he kept saying, "but mom, but mom - Jesus doesn't know where I live." I told him that Jesus knows everything and he really does know where Cameron Chad Peterson lives. He was adamant that he did not, know where he lived so I told him I would tell Jesus - "no, you can't do that mom." So in my attempt to further help Cameron feel content, I got his very own picture of Christ, put it in a frame and told him we would hang it up wherever he wanted in his room to help him know that Jesus can always be with him. We'll see, I think he has figured out that he gets attention when he says he is scared, so we are trying to not make a big deal of it whenever he says he is scared. I just firmly tell him he will be safe and we will see him in the morning.
